Kearney Lake

Trail Summary

Minutes from Halifax, just off of highway 102 at the Kearney Lake exit is one of Halifax’s most popular summertime destinations.  Kearney Lake has always been a popular swimming hole and the Maskwa Aquatic Club is its backbone.  The area has grown a lot through the years, with new houses being built all around.  Cottages of old have now become some very impressive houses.

The Kearney Lake trail system was a largely unofficial one, that a handful of walkers and mountain bikers used.  The trails, like the rest of the area have grown a bit over the years, and are now being maintained by the aquatic club.  There are now a few signs as well as a map of couple of different trails. It is a great spot for a quick getaway. Off road biking isn’t ideal here, as the terrain is full of roots and other obstacles.

The main trail is non-looped, and follows the lake.  It takes about 2 hours to go to the end and back. There is another trail that is looped through the forest that is longer. The trail head is well marked, at the parking lot beside the Aquatic Club.

Kearney Lake is one of Halifax’s most popular summer destinations.
