Halifax Regional Municipality consists of four former municipalities (Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford & Halifax County) that were amalgamated in 1996. With a population of over 1/2 a million people, it is the most populated part of the province, with most people living in the urban core in and around the Halifax Peninsula.
Blessed with many natural gifts whose protection has been championed by generations of Haligonians, it’s one of the few urban areas in North America where you can explore untouched wilderness without leaving the city limits.
Whether you’re chasing ocean views or forest solitude, HRM delivers a rich mix of terrain and outdoor adventures. Most trails are community-powered by volunteer groups who value these natural areas as Halifax’s most important assets.
My most-viewed guides within the Halifax Regional Municipality:
- The Salt Marsh Trail
- Polly’s Cove
- Long Lake Provincial Park
- Herring Cove Provincial Park
- Chain of Lakes Trail
