Halifax Regional Municipality consists of four former municipalities (Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford & Halifax County) that were amalgamated in 1996. With a population of over 1/2 a million people, it is the most populated part of the province, with most people living in the urban core in and around the Halifax Peninsula.
Blessed with many natural gifts whose protection has been championed by the people, it’s one of the few urban areas in North America where you can explore untouched wilderness without leaving the city limits.
