Breathtakingly beautiful coastline, 15km of hiking trails and a provincial park <a from downtown Halifax brings you to some pure, authentic Nova Scotian <i class=\"wp-svg-eye eye\"><\/i> <a along High Head Trail in Prospect&#8217;s Bill Freedman Nature Reserve are a great way to experience it.\u00a0 Like Peggy&#8217;s Cove, but without the tourism focus.\u00a0 Explore the endless ocean views and <i class=\"wp-svg-eye eye\"><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/kuula.co\/share\/78rfy\/collection\/799Kp?logo=1&amp;info=1&amp;fs=1&amp;vr=1&amp;sd=1&amp;autorotate=0.02&amp;thumbs=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sit <\/a>for a breathtaking sunset.\u00a0 Stop by nearby\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.halifaxtrails.ca\/ss-atlantic-heritage-park\/\">SS Atlantic Heritage Park<\/a> to learn about one of the world&#8217;s worst nautical disasters that occurred on these shores.\u00a0 Stroll the boardwalk, take in more beautiful scenery and a cup of tea at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssatlantic.com\/ssatlantic\/museum\/\">Interpretation Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.halifaxtrails.ca\/crystal-crescent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crystal Crescent Provincial Park &#8211; Pennant Point Trail:<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Often voted as Halifax&#8217;s best beach, Crystal Crescent is more than that.\u00a0 With an extensive 11km hiking trail, the entire peninsula is there for your <i class=\"wp-svg-eye eye\"><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/kuula.co\/share\/78QvH\/collection\/79qk9?logo=1&amp;info=1&amp;fs=1&amp;vr=1&amp;sd=1&amp;autorotate=0.02&amp;thumbs=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eyes to feast upon<\/a>.\u00a0 Rugged and largely unmarked, it&#8217;s not an easy stroll, but well worth the effort.\u00a0 With plenty of great places to be transfixed by the crashing waves, you&#8217;ll want to pull up a <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.halifaxtrails.ca\/product-tag\/seat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">seat<\/a> and schedule lots of extra time to sit and take it all in.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.halifaxtrails.ca\/maccormacks-beach-provincial-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MacCormack&#8217;s Beach Provincial Park:<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Enjoy the eclectic shops and restaurants of <i class=\"wp-svg-eye eye\"><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/kuula.co\/share\/N6zPm\/collection\/79J7J?logo=1&amp;info=1&amp;fs=1&amp;vr=1&amp;sd=1&amp;autorotate=0.02&amp;thumbs=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener easily accessible for all, take a dip in the <i class=\"wp-svg-eye eye\"><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/kuula.co\/share\/collection\/79qG4?logo=1&amp;info=1&amp;fs=1&amp;vr=1&amp;sd=1&amp;autorotate=0.02&amp;thumbs=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lake<\/a> wherever you see fit, or paddle out to one of the <i class=\"wp-svg-eye eye\"><\/i> <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">frog pond<\/a>, <i class=\"wp-svg-eye eye\"><\/i> <a Northwest Arm<\/a>.\u00a0 A gift with a lasting impression donated to the people of Halifax from a man with a knack for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sandford_Fleming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lasting impressions<\/a> on society.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.halifaxtrails.ca\/musquodoboit-river\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Musquodoboit River:<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>This wide, easy flowing Class 2 river is ideal for paddlers of any ability (water levels notwithstanding).\u00a0 \u00a0With a couple of day-use <i class=\"wp-svg-eye eye\"><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/59sZgh23V7cb9Ygq6\">parks<\/a> with river access along the way, you can plan a paddling adventure of a couple of hours or a couple of days.<\/p>\n<p>Watch eagles soar overhead while you cruise by huge trees with exposed root systems clinging to the riverbank.\u00a0 The river usually moves at a lazy pace, which works just fine for this relaxing, scenic paddle.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.halifaxtrails.ca\/shubie-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shubie Park:<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Rent a canoe, kayak or paddleboard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shubenacadiecanal.ca\/canoe-kayak-rentals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on-site<\/a> and explore the historic gem of Dartmouth.\u00a0 Do a leisurely cruise along the historic <i class=\"wp-svg-eye eye\"><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/kuula.co\/share\/collection\/79vnr?logo=1&amp;info=1&amp;fs=1&amp;vr=1&amp;sd=1&amp;autorotate=0.02&amp;thumbs=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shubie Canal<\/a> and\/or explore either of the two huge lakes at opposite ends of the park.<\/p>\n<p>Shubie Park is also home to the only campground in the Halifax Regional Municipality.\u00a0 A #<a href=\"https:\/\/www.halifaxtrails.ca\/tag\/family-friendly\/\">family-friendly<\/a> park with public beaches, biking &amp; walking trails easily accessible to
