Thank you all for contributing.  This project couldn’t continue without your support.  Every dollar has helped with the all-important financial expenses, allowing me to continue adding, updating & improving.

Despite the sizeable amount of traffic the site receives and the large audience it reaches, funding it is a major struggle.  With no government grants or corporate funding, I’m able to be 100% independent and outspoken at a cost (about me).

With this platform that I’ve created, I aim to promote nature appreciation by empowering people to explore it.  I voice opinions, raise public awareness and spotlight volunteer groups.   To the best of my shoestring-budget ability, I showcase unique natural gems and the grassroots groups who work to protect them. At the core of the creation of this website is pride in my beautiful hometown & province.

I don’t use a paywall or introduce other barriers.  This project is intended to help everyone regardless of income to discover, explore, enjoy and appreciate Nova Scotia’s great outdoors as much as I do.

The site is currently not at a level of economic self-sufficiency.  My goal is to garner enough support to keep online and free to the public.  With your support, I can devote more time and resources to updating, improving, and adding more free guides.  You can help me achieve these goals in 3 simple ways: – Funded by 3 Methods:

1) Contribute:

Contribute any amount.  I have no government grants or corporate funding and have done what I can on a shoestring budget. 100% secure transactions via PayPal or encrypted credit card payment.

All supporter’s names are displayed under the “Supporters” heading on  Feel free to include a website link or special instructions for your listing. Contact me with the info or leave a note with the contribution.

To be listed as a “Top Supporter” the sum of your donations must be at (tied) or above (sole possession) these values which are set thanks to the generosity of the current top supporters:  1st) $500. 2nd) $300. 3rd) $200.

2) Shop:

online hiking, camping, paddling and outdoor equipment

Amazon     Support by bookmarking this link to use for your Amazon shopping.  I receive a small commission on all Amazon purchases from that link, via their affiliate program.

shop is a personally curated mix of products that catch my eye when I’m researching equipment.  It’s full of outdoor recreation gear, books and my products.  I receive a small commission (roughly 5%) on all Amazon product purchases and a larger percentage for my own products.

With product price history tracking and custom price drop alerts, you’ll have powerful tools for great deals.  Save your favourites for later with shareable wishlists.  Stay tuned to the daily deals section for today’s best buys, and spread the word!halifax trails hiking t-shirt support

Purchase a T-Shirt.  Look stylish on the trail or on the couch, and support at the same time.  A portion of proceeds goes toward local volunteer organizations working to protect and improve our local trails.  Remember to tag your adventures on social media: #HalifaxTrails.

3) Click, Share, Subscribe, Like & Comment:

Clicking on ads throughout the site helps pay for the yearly web hosting fees.  At a rate of pennies per click, it’s not much but it’s what pays that bill.  (With regular contributions or shop purchases, I’d gladly get rid of the ads).

The simple act of Sharing, linking to my pages, “liking“, commenting, following, and subscribing is a huge help.  All forms of interaction and engagement are valuable feedback and a huge boost to algorithmic rankings.  These simple acts are very helpful factors behind audience growth.  More importantly, knowing my work is appreciated is my main reward and motivation.

Leave me some feedback.  Has helped you? Do you recommend it to others?  I have encountered friendly people on my hikes who were happy to see me at work and chat with me about the website.  “There’s the trails guy!” a mother excitedly tells her children.  She tells me they have begun family hiking adventures, at the direction of her children, with the help of  Beaming with pride, I was happy to witness EXACTLY what I had in mind when I created the site back in 2009.  Feedback makes this whole project worthwhile.

Special Thanks
